The Derby of the Year: Europa vs Sant Andreu tickets

Football lovers in Barcelona have a date marked in red on the calendar: “El Derbi del Pla,” or as we like to call it, “La Vila contra el Poble.” This means Europa against Sant Andreu, a historic and territorial derby, a clash between neighboring clubs from districts that were once independent towns. And in 2024, the derby arrives after both clubs surprised Second Division rivals in the Copa del Rey tournament.

Hidden Barcelona holds this secret neighborhood football party, gaining more and more followers. With a beer always in hand, fans of both teams will bring color, both before and after the game, to the stands of the Nou Sardenya stadium, evoking the beautiful images of football from the past. Fans, smoke, tifos, drums, chants… the best atmosphere in a derby that is a tribute to humble football.

The Nou Sardenya stadium, home of Europa, will dress up on Sunday, November 17 at 6:00 p.m., and will display the “Sold Out” sign despite its 6,000-spectator capacity. The party in the surrounding streets and in the stands is guaranteed.

Two Historic Clubs:

In 1900, football arrived in the Sant Andreu neighborhood of Barcelona with a colony of Scottish workers who founded the “Scottish Football Club.” When the team that played in the area disappeared, a group of young locals created Club Z, the root of C.F. Andreuenc, which eventually became today’s Unió Esportiva Sant Andreu. History was underway.

Since its founding in 1909, UE Sant Andreu has enjoyed several golden eras, playing in the Second Division and facing Spain’s best teams in the Copa del Rey. During the Franco era, the club’s crest and the colors of its shirt (the “senyera”) were altered by the regime, but with the arrival of democracy, they were able to restore them.

Club Esportiu Europa was born in Vila de Gràcia on June 5, 1907, known for its name and its unmistakable blue and white shirt in the Vélez Sarsfield style. It is believed they were inspired by Birmingham City during a visit to Barcelona in the 1920s. At that time, the club experienced its golden age and was one of the founding members of the League. In 1923, they were also Copa runners-up. In the 1990s, they achieved a milestone by winning the Catalonia Cup against Barça twice, repeating this feat in 2015 against Girona. In addition, the club has a highly renowned women’s football section.
